Difficulties increased in Delhi due to cold, fog and poisonous air, IMD issued yellow alert

The harsh winter has increased in Delhi and surrounding areas. The minimum temperature has reached 7 degrees Celsius, while dense fog has made the movement and life of common people difficult. India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Delhi-NCR region. According to the department, despite the increasing speed of cold winds, the air quality has reached very poor category, which is affecting both health and traffic. The air quality in Delhi still remains in the very poor category and there is no sign of reduction in pollution. The situation is getting worse day by day. However, the government has taken important steps to reduce air pollution. GRAP-4 restrictions have been implemented in the capital, but their effect seems to be limited at present and the air remains poisonous. Even today most of the areas of Delhi are in the Red Zone.

Increasing cold and wind speed in Delhi-NCR

For the last two days, the cold is continuously increasing in Delhi-NCR and sunlight is missing from morning to evening. Dense fog has engulfed the entire area, reducing visibility and increasing the feeling of chill. Earlier the cold winds were blowing at a speed of 8 to 20 kilometers per hour, but from today their speed is likely to increase to about 25 kilometers per hour. Due to these strong winds, further drop in temperature is being felt, due to which the everyday problems of common citizens have increased.

cold cold alert

According to the India Meteorological Department, no official announcement of cold wave has been made at present, but in view of the severity of the weather, a yellow alert has been issued. Dense fog persists in many areas during morning and evening. Due to cold winds, chill will increase in the body, and the risk will be higher for the elderly and children. IMD has advised people to exercise caution, avoid going out early in the morning and do not travel unnecessarily on the highways, so that the chances of accidents are minimized.

Temperature, AQI and further weather of some cities

The maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 20 and minimum at 8 degrees Celsius, while the Air Quality Index (AQI) was 334. The temperature in Noida was recorded between 22 to 11 degrees Celsius and AQI was 328. The situation was most severe in Ghaziabad, where AQI reached 444 to 484 and temperature ranged from 21 to 11 degrees Celsius. AQI was recorded at 323 in Gurgaon and 432 in Greater Noida. According to IMD, the cold effect will continue throughout the week till December 27, and the maximum temperature may drop to 19 and minimum 7 degrees Celsius. During this period, dense fog and cold winds will persist continuously. The Meteorological Department has warned that if necessary, further yellow or other alerts can be issued.

Due to the dense blanket of pollution over Delhi, the pace of the capital has slowed down. Visibility has reduced significantly due to fog and smog, the effect of which is clearly visible on the daily movement of common people. The situation becomes more serious in the morning and evening. Buildings and monuments that were visible from a distance are now barely visible.

The fourth phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) has been implemented to control air pollution in the capital. Under this, a strict ban has been imposed on the entry of vehicles below BS-6 standard in Delhi. Also, steps like ban on construction work, control on industrial activities and promoting the use of public transport are being taken so that the pollution level can be reduced.

Cold is continuously increasing in Delhi and yellow alert has been in effect in the capital for two days. The Meteorological Department has also issued a yellow fog alert for Monday. Today the maximum temperature of Delhi is expected to be 21 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be 9 degree Celsius.
