‘There are two samples in the country, one in UP and the other…’, SP enraged by CM Yogi’s statement, ruckus in the House

UP: During the winter session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, the issue of cough syrup containing codeine became the cause of heated debate in the House. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while cornering the opposition Samajwadi Party on this issue, clearly said that not a single death due to codeine syrup has been recorded in the state and in the states where deaths have occurred, the syrup used was manufactured in Tamil Nadu.

The Chief Minister alleged that licenses to big wholesalers caught by the STF were given during the tenure of the Samajwadi Party government. On the questions of SP MLA Atul Pradhan and on showing the picture of the accused with the Deputy Chief Minister, the CM termed it as a straw in the beard of a thief, after which the atmosphere in the House became more heated.

CM Yogi’s blunt answer on codeine syrup

The CM sarcastically said that whenever there is a debate on any serious issue in the country, some people immediately go abroad. After this comment, Samajwadi Party MLAs walked out of the House.

No manufacturing in UP, only stockists present

Speaking on the quality of medicines, the Chief Minister said that codeine syrup is not manufactured in Uttar Pradesh. There are only its stockists and wholesalers here. He told that FSDA is continuously conducting raids against fake medicines. Taking aim at the Leader of Opposition, the CM said that at this age he should speak the truth, but SP people are still making him lie.

There was a heated debate in the House on the word ‘Sampal’ used in the Chief Minister’s statement. Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey expressed objection and asked why such language was being used for leaders. On this, the Assembly Speaker clarified that the Chief Minister has not taken anyone’s name. Meanwhile, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna said that the opposition is unnecessarily giving importance to the issue and the CM has expressed his views without taking names.

SP MLA Atul Pradhan

Earlier, while raising the issue of codeine syrup in the House, SP MLA Atul Pradhan had asked where the bulldozer has slept in this matter? He showed a photograph of the accused along with Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak in the House, which increased the uproar. Terming these allegations as baseless, the Chief Minister raised questions on the working style of the opposition.

CM Yogi’s warning

CM Yogi said that after investigating this entire matter in depth, names of people associated with Samajwadi Party are coming to light. He told that an illegal transaction has taken place in the account of an officer of Lohia Vahini, which is being investigated by STF. The Chief Minister warned in clear words that bulldozer action will also be taken against the culprits, then the opposition should not make noise.

He informed that illegal supply of codeine syrup was done in those areas where drug prohibition is in force. The government has so far registered 79 cases and made 78 arrests and raids have been conducted on 134 firms.
