Mumbai: Famous Hollywood director James Cameron’s new film ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ is now being released in theatres. It is the third episode of the Avatar series, featuring the new adventures of Jake Sully and Neytiri’s family. This time they encounter the ‘Ash People’, a new tribe of fire, with whom a fierce war breaks out.
Great visuals and box office success of the film
The film’s visual effects, 3D and IMAX experience have mesmerized the audience. The film was released on 19 December 2025 and has grossed $345 million (approximately Rs 3100 crore) at the global box office in the first three days. According to reports, it has earned $88 million from the US and Canada and $257 million from international markets.
Record breaking opening of ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’
The film has become the second biggest global opening of 2025, behind only ‘Zootopia 2’. For James Cameron, this is his second biggest opening, while ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ opened with $441 million. It had a slightly lower take in the US with $88 million, but the film did well internationally.
Historic earnings in three days
It has earned $57.6 million in China, $21 million in France, $18 million in Germany and $13 million in Korea. It became the biggest opening of 2025 in many countries, such as France, Germany, Spain, Korea and Vietnam. The film also set the record for the biggest IMAX opening of 2025 with a gross of $43.6 million in IMAX.
Premium formats (3D and IMAX) have generated 66% of revenue, indicating that audiences are ready for an immersive experience. This film has debuted at number 1 in many markets of Europe and Asia. Overall, the film has broken records in many countries. It is getting good response in India too, although there is competition from some local films. But this film is proving to be a hit globally. The film budget is huge, but the Avatar series always lasts a long time.
