Chandigarh PGI Critical Care Project; Construction of critical care block of PGI in Chandigarh has been given green signal. The Chandigarh administration has given environmental clearance to this project. The approval was issued last week, following a detailed assessment of the construction and compliance with environmental standards.

The critical care block, built at a cost of around ₹200 crore, is being built under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana and is being monitored at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). According to administration officials, the Department of Environment and Pollution Control will coordinate with the central government and oversee every aspect of the project from construction to full operation.

Previous observations

Key points reviewed before environmental clearance included proximity to eco-sensitive zones like Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary and Bird Sanctuary, preservation of greenery, and measures related to air, water and soil protection. Solid waste and medical waste management, sewage treatment plants, and effluent treatment plants were also included in the approval process.

A few days before the environmental clearance, the planning department had approved the building plan for the project. The project will be built on an area of ​​about 24,000 square meters, including a basement of about 5,000 square meters. The plan was evaluated under the Chandigarh Master Plan 2031, which examined aspects such as floor area ratio, parking and circulation space.
