Security agencies were put on alert after a six-year-old boy picked up a suspicious device from a garbage heap in Jammu and Kashmir. Investigation revealed that this device is actually a Chinese-made telescope, which can be fitted on weapons like guns. After the incident, the police took immediate action and took possession of the equipment and security checks have been intensified in sensitive areas.
Jammu Rural Police recovered the device from Sidhra area on Sunday (December 21). According to officials, police reached the spot after being informed by the child’s family and after preliminary verification, the telescope was secured. Preliminary investigation has revealed that it is a device which can be fitted with the weapon.
Police said that considering the seriousness of the matter, a detailed investigation has been started in collaboration with the Special Operations Group (SOG) to find out how the device reached there and whether it was left intentionally. According to officials, a six-year-old child resident of Asrarabad area of Sidhra had picked up this object from a nearby garbage dump during the day. During interrogation, the family told the police that the child had no knowledge of the nature or use of the item.

As soon as the information was received, the police immediately took possession of the equipment as a precautionary measure and secured the surrounding area. Caution was taken in the area to avoid any possible danger.
After this recovery, security arrangements have been tightened in Sidhra and surrounding areas. Officials said that this area is sensitive because the office of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is also located here. It is reported that the telescope was found not far from the NIA campus, which further increased the concern of the security agencies. However, the police have appealed to the local people to maintain peace and said that there is no immediate threat at present. According to officials, all necessary security measures have been implemented.
