An unusual incident related to Odisha has become a topic of discussion these days. During the Home Guard recruitment examination in the state, such a scene was seen which surprised everyone. Examination of more than 8,000 candidates was conducted for less than 200 posts and to accommodate such a large number, an air strip in Sambalpur was made the examination centre. Videos and pictures of candidates taking the exam sitting on the ground quickly went viral on social media.

According to reports, this written examination was held on 16 December. Thousands of youth had applied for a total of 187 Home Guard posts, including many highly educated candidates. According to the report, some candidates who appeared in the examination had obtained professional degrees like MBA and MCA. Candidates selected for the post of Home Guard in Odisha are given an honorarium of Rs 639 per day.

In view of the huge crowd of candidates, the district police administration chose a less-used air strip as the examination venue. Officials say that additional police force was deployed to conduct the examination smoothly on such a large scale. Besides, drone cameras were also used to maintain surveillance and discipline.

However, this entire arrangement also gave rise to political debate. As soon as videos related to the exam surfaced on social media, Trinamool Congress (TMC) targeted the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Odisha. TMC shared the video on Calling this an example of unemployment, the party raised questions on the central and state governments.

According to an official, many candidates had reached the examination center as early as 6 in the morning, but the question papers were distributed to them at 9 in the morning. The duration of the written examination was of one hour, which included questions related to Paragraph Writing for 20 marks and General Knowledge for 30 marks.

There has been no official response from Odisha BJP on this entire controversy till now, but this incident has further intensified the debate regarding the employment situation and recruitment processes in the state.
