IPL 2026: Punjab Kings got a strong player for Rs 3 crore, ready to bat at any number.
IPL 2026: Australian all-rounder Cooper Connolly, who joined the Punjab Kings team, said that he is ready to play at any number in the batting order in next year’s Indian Premier League (IPL). Connolly, an aggressive batsman, agile fielder and left-arm spin bowler, was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 3 crore in the mini auction earlier this month.

“I like to adapt my game in such a way that I can fully utilize my versatility in any situation,” Connolly said in a virtual media interaction on Monday. So whether it is batting at number three or playing in the middle order, I am ready to play any kind of role.
The 22-year-old player has been in great form in the Big Bash League and has scored two half-centuries while batting at number three for Perth Scorchers. Punjab Kings, however, can use him as a finisher. Captain Shreyas Iyer had indicated this after the auction.
“I think I’m just learning about the role of batting at number three for the (Perth) Scorchers,” Connolly said. It’s a role I enjoy. But if my role is different in IPL then I understand well because this is a world class team.
He said that batting in the middle order will be a good opportunity, which will give me a chance to work hard and adapt my game to batting in the middle order. Connolly is counted among the young talents of Australian cricket. He made his T20 and ODI debut in September last year and played his first Test match in January.

Connolly said he is looking forward to working closely with Australia’s World Cup-winning captain Ricky Ponting, who is the head coach of Punjab Kings. He said that I have heard very good things about him. I haven’t practiced much with them yet. So I am looking forward to spending some time with him and making the necessary changes to my batting and see what his thoughts are about my game.
