Veteran all-rounder Krishnappa Gautam announced his retirement from cricket.

New Delhi: Karnataka’s experienced all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. With this decision his 14 year long Indian domestic cricket career came to an end. Gautam is known for his strong batting in the lower order and reliable off-spin. He has put in a string of impressive performances in the Ranji Trophy, IPL and India-A level.
debut in ranji
Gautam made his Ranji Trophy debut in 2012. In his debut match itself, he took several key wickets, including those of Suresh Raina and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. His aggressive batting and ability to take wickets at crucial junctures made him an important member of the Karnataka team.
Great performance in 2016-17
In the 2016–17 Ranji season, he took 27 wickets in just eight matches, earning him the status of a reliable all-rounder. The following season, he scored his maiden first-class century in Mysuru while playing against Assam.
Contribution to domestic cricket
In Gautam’s domestic career, he took more than 320 wickets in 59 first-class and 68 List-A matches. He also scored many important runs in the lower order. He remained a regular member of the Karnataka team till 2023 and also got a chance in the India A team several times, where he played against New Zealand A, West Indies A, Australia A and England Lions. In 2021, joining the Indian team as a net bowler, he played one ODI on the Sri Lanka tour and took one wicket.
Gautam’s IPL career
In the IPL, Gautam played for Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants. In 2021, Chennai Super Kings bought him for Rs 9.25 crore, which was his highest price in the IPL auction. In nine seasons, he grossed over Rs 35 crore and gave many amazing performances.
Gautam’s memorable performance
His most memorable performance was in the Karnataka Premier League, when he scored 134 runs in 56 balls, which included 13 sixes, while playing for Bellary Tuskers. He completed his century in just 39 balls and took eight wickets for just 15 runs in four overs. This performance is considered one of the most memorable moments of Indian T20 cricket.
