Army will take over security command 30 days before general elections in Nepal
Kathmandu. The Army will take over the security command 30 days before the parliamentary elections to be held in Nepal on March 5. Earlier the decision to conduct military operations was taken in the last week of November, but now the Nepali Army will not enter the field immediately.
Army spokesperson Assistant Rathi Rajaram Basnet said, ‘In order to make the elections free, fair, fear-free and credible, the Nepali Army is giving priority to the work related to election security without any controversy on the basis of the House of Representatives Election Security Plan approved by the Central Security Committee, keeping in mind the circumstances. We will start conducting our operations 30 days before the elections.
According to the security plan, the responsibility of printing and transporting ballot papers for the elections has been given to the Nepali Army. Apart from this, Nepali Army will also be deployed during the election period to protect important structures and establishments protected by Nepal Police and Armed Guard Force. Nepali Army will also take over the responsibility of security of these places 30 days before the elections. Similarly, the army will also do the work of neutralizing suspected explosive materials during elections. Nepali Army has been performing this responsibility in previous elections also.
Spokesperson Basnet said that compared to the previous elections, this time no special change has been made in the role of Nepali Army. He said that the role we played in the last elections will be the same this time too. We will make security arrangements as per the instructions given by the Integrated Security Plan and according to the situation. This time too we will be deployed in the outer siege only. Earlier, high officials of the government had said that the army would be deployed three months before the elections, but currently, according to the new decision, the Nepalese Army is busy in other preparations including joint exercises for the elections. Plans are being made after analyzing the security of each district. The army is also preparing to make public information about its activities in election security.
