Navy gets third anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft ‘Anjdeep’
New Delhi. Indigenously designed and built Anti Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft ‘Anjadeep’ was handed over to the Indian Navy in Chennai on Monday. It is the third of eight ships being built at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata. The ship will strengthen the Navy’s anti-submarine, coastal surveillance and mine laying capabilities.
Anti Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) ships are designed and built as per the classification rules of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS). It has been constructed under Public Private Partnership between GRSE and Larsen & Toubro Shipyard at Kattupalli. Together this shows the success of defense manufacturing. These ships, approximately 77 meters long, are the largest waterjet-powered warships of the Indian Navy. It is fitted with state-of-the-art sonar and lightweight torpedoes for underwater surveillance and can achieve speeds of up to 25 knots.
