Rekha Sarkar’s strong attack on pollution, now PUC challan will not be waived!

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday took some decisive steps towards controlling the increasing pollution in the capital Delhi and making the environment clean. The Chief Minister has made it clear that his government will adopt a policy of zero tolerance against the factors causing pollution.
In this series, a high level review meeting was organized in Delhi Secretariat, in which many effective decisions were taken for pollution control. These include not waiving PUC challan, running pool and share e-buses in Delhi NCR.

Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa along with senior officials of Environment, Transport, Delhi Pollution Control Committee, PWD and Traffic Police were present in this important meeting. In the meeting, the Chief Minister took the strictest stance towards those vehicles which are spreading pollution on the roads without valid Pollution Control Certificate (PUC).

According to the current system, there is a provision of a heavy fine of Rs 10,000 on polluting vehicles. The Chief Minister took cognizance that often vehicle owners take the help of Lok Adalat and get the fine reduced, due to which the fear of punishment is eliminated and people are not serious about making their vehicles pollution free.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has bluntly said that now the challan of polluting vehicles will not be waived off at any cost. He instructed the officials that even if the government has to approach the court for this, it will not step back. The aim of the government is not to collect revenue but to provide clean air to the citizens.

Delhi government will soon tie up with major companies like Ola and Uber to promote private participation to reduce pollution. The objective of this scheme is to explore the possibilities of running ‘pollution-free passenger buses’ in the form of pool and share in the Delhi-NCR region.

If these companies operate electric or pollution-free buses, it will reduce the pressure of private vehicles on the roads and make public transport more environment friendly. The Chief Minister says that making the capital zero emission is his priority.

Unregulated e-rickshaws on the roads of the capital become a major cause of traffic jams. Due to traffic jam, vehicles burn more fuel, which directly helps in increasing pollution.

To solve this problem, the Chief Minister has announced that the Delhi government will soon issue a new ‘e-rickshaw guideline’. Through these rules, the operation area of e-rickshaws and their routes will be organized, so that the traffic is not disrupted and the movement of vehicles on the roads remains smooth.

To strengthen public transport, the government has decided to rationalize the routes of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses. According to the Chief Minister, DTC should reach every area and every street of Delhi.

Scientific and rationalization of routes will improve last mile connectivity, thereby encouraging people to use public bus services instead of private vehicles.

The Chief Minister has ordered all the departments to work with mutual coordination and implement these decisions with immediate effect. The Chief Minister says that the Delhi government is fighting a comprehensive and multi-dimensional war against pollution.

The government’s view is clear that it will not shy away from taking the toughest decisions to protect the environment. The government is not only modernizing public transport but is also ensuring heavy fines and legal action against those who violate rules. The Chief Minister said that his government is completely serious and dedicated towards making Delhi clean and green.
