Jemimah Rodrigues set to lead Delhi Capitals in WPL 2026: Report

NEW DELHI: India batter Jemimah Rodrigues is set to be announced as the new captain of Delhi Capitals ahead of the fourth edition of the Women’s Premier League, with the official confirmation expected on Tuesday December 23, according to a Cricbuzz report.

Delhi Capitals released former skipper Meg Lanning ahead of the WPL 2026 mega auction but retained Rodrigues as part of their five player core. The franchise had made it clear that an Indian player would lead the side in the new cycle, a view reiterated by DC co owner Parth Jindal during the auction.

“We are very clear we want an Indian as captain. We have our minds made up,” Jindal had said.

Rodrigues’ elevation comes on the back of outstanding form. She played a key role in India’s historic ICC ODI World Cup triumph in November earlier this year and followed it up with a player of the match knock of 69 off 44 balls in the first T20I against Sri Lanka in Visakhapatnam on Monday, underlining why she is seen as the ideal choice to lead Delhi Capitals.
