Big boost to women’s cricket, match fees of domestic players increased by two and a half times

Giving a big boost to the women cricketers of the country, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a historic increase in the match fees of domestic cricket. This decision is being considered an important step towards strengthening the future of women’s cricket. This news, which came just before Christmas, has brought a smile on the faces of women players across the country.

proposal put forward in the meeting

This proposal was put forward in the BCCI Apex Council meeting held on Monday, December 22, which was approved. Under the new system, the match fees of domestic women cricketers have been increased by almost two and a half times. This will not only increase the income of the players, but will also improve their chances of adopting cricket professionally as a career.

Till now, the players who were part of the playing eleven in the senior women’s tournament used to get Rs 20 thousand per day. According to the new structure, this amount has been increased to Rs 50 thousand per day. At the same time, the reserve players of the team have also not been ignored. Where earlier he used to get Rs 10 thousand per day, now it has increased to Rs 25 thousand. With this, the entire team will benefit from financial security.

This decision will prove to be very beneficial for junior women cricketers also. Players included in the playing eleven in the junior tournament will now get Rs 25,000 per day and reserve players will get Rs 12,500. The amount fixed for T20 matches has been kept half that of ODI matches, but there too there has been a significant increase as compared to earlier.

Earlier, on an average, a senior women player could get only around Rs 2 lakh in a domestic season, that too when the team played only till the league stage. After the implementation of the new fee structure, there will be a significant increase in the total earnings of the players.

This decision of BCCI has come at a time when women’s cricket is becoming increasingly popular in India. During the tenure of Jay Shah, the Board has taken many concrete steps to advance women’s cricket, the impact of which is being seen at the international level as well. Under the leadership of current president Mithun Manhas, the board seems to be giving priority to the development of women’s cricket.

There was a revision in match fees in 2021

It is noteworthy that before this, the last revision in the match fees of women cricketers was done in the year 2021. Then the fees of senior players was increased from Rs 12,500 to Rs 20,000. The current increase is the biggest increase since that decision, which shows that BCCI is moving forward with a long-term and serious thinking regarding women’s cricket.
