Kal Ka Mausam: After rain and snowfall in Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, now dense fog in the plains of North India has increased the problems of the people. According to the Meteorological Department, dense fog will be seen in most cities of North India on December 23, due to which road, rail and air traffic may be affected. The effect of fog along with cold wave is likely to be more in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar and Jharkhand.
Situation serious in Jammu-Kashmir and Himachal
Many vehicles are stuck on the road due to heavy snowfall in Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir. At the same time, 11 flights have been canceled at Srinagar Airport due to bad weather. The weather pattern has changed in Himachal Pradesh also and warning of fog and light snowfall has been issued in many areas.
Dense fog warning in 15 cities of North India
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of dense fog in 15 major cities of North India on 23 December. There is a possibility of dense fog in Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Tundla, Barabanki, Muzaffarnagar and Gautam Buddha Nagar of Uttar Pradesh from 4 am to 10 pm.
Visibility may also remain very low in the morning in Gurugram, Sonipat and Panipat of Haryana. People have been advised to remain alert in Amritsar, Patiala and Faridkot of Punjab. Smog can also cause trouble in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh.
Cold wave and severe pollution in Delhi
There is a possibility of dense fog in the morning along with cold wave in Delhi on 23 December. The Meteorological Department has warned to take special care while traveling in the morning. The Air Quality Index (AQI) is expected to be in the severe category in 16 areas of the capital.
Visibility less than 50 meters in Uttar Pradesh
Dense fog alert has been issued in many districts of Uttar Pradesh including Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Bahraich, Fatehgarh, Lucknow, Banda, Kushinagar, Azamgarh, Varanasi. Visibility may be less than 50 meters in the morning, which may increase the risk of road accidents.
Effect of cold wave in Bihar and Jharkhand
Due to strong westerly winds, cold wave will continue in many districts including Patna in Bihar. There is a possibility of dangerous cold wave in Gaya, Arwal, Nalanda and Jehanabad, while there is a possibility of dense fog in Sitamarhi and Shivhar.
Dense fog alert has also been issued in Gumla, Ranchi, Lohardaga, Giridih, Bokaro, Dhanbad and Jamtara of Jharkhand. A huge drop in temperature can be recorded here.
Light rain and snowfall expected in Uttarakhand and Himachal
There may be light rain or snowfall at isolated places in Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh of Uttarakhand. The temperature in Dehradun is expected to be between 7 to 23 degrees Celsius.
Dense fog warning has been issued in Himachal Pradesh’s Manali, Chamba and Bilaspur, while Kullu and Una may receive light snowfall.
Fog alert in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh also
A warning of dense fog has been issued in many districts of Rajasthan including Ganganagar, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur and Alwar.
The effect of dense fog and cold wave can also be seen in Gwalior, Chambal division, Bhopal, Ujjain and Indore of Madhya Pradesh.
