New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given an important gift to women cricketers. In the recently held Apex Council meeting, a historic increase in the match fees of domestic women cricketers has been approved. This step is being considered important towards economically empowering women’s cricket and establishing it as a sustainable career.
BCCI meeting was held on 22 December, in which this proposal was unanimously approved. As per the new decision, the match fees of women domestic cricketers have been increased by almost 2.5 times the existing rates. The Board believes that this will provide financial security to the players and encourage young players to choose cricket as a full-time career.
Tremendous increase in fees for senior women players
Players playing in senior women’s domestic tournaments were earlier paid Rs 20,000 per day. Now under the new structure this amount has been increased to Rs 50,000 per day. This increased fee will be given to all those players who will be included in the playing eleven of the match.
Reserve players also get financial benefits
This decision includes an increase in the match fees not only for the playing XI players but also for the reserve players. Now senior reserve players will get Rs 25,000 per day instead of Rs 10,000, which will provide financial support to the entire squad and all members will get equal importance.
New standards for junior and T20 competitions
BCCI has also announced a new fee structure for junior women’s tournaments and T20 matches. Now in the junior women’s tournament, the playing XI will be given Rs 25,000 per day and the reserve players will be given Rs 12,500. At the same time, in T20 matches this amount will be half, that is, Rs 12,500 will be given to the playing XI and Rs 6,250 per day to the reserves.
Important steps towards the development of women’s cricket
This decision has come at a time when the popularity of women’s cricket has increased rapidly in India. During Jay Shah’s tenure, BCCI has taken many important decisions to strengthen the structure of women’s cricket. Efforts are also being made to promote women’s cricket at the international level, and the vision for women’s cricket is clearly visible under the new leadership of the Board.
Biggest increase since 2021
It is noteworthy that BCCI last increased the match fees of women cricketers in 2021. At that time the fees of senior players was increased from Rs 12,500 to Rs 20,000. This new increase has taken the income of women cricketers to a new level, which is expected to strengthen the entire ecosystem of domestic cricket.
