Rail fare increased by 107% in 10 years, even a plate of Rs 30 became ₹ 120
New Delhi. Congress leader Ajay Kumar, while addressing a press conference, has targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party government by mentioning the increase in train fares. He said, “The Modi government is giving gifts to the people of this country. First the AQI reached the 1000 mark and now the increase in railway fares. That too without any announcement from the government, just by issuing a circular. The pockets of the lower and middle class people are being continuously attacked.
He further said that this is the second time in this tenure of Modi government that they have increased the rail fares. There has been an increase of 107% since 2013. AC 2-tier fare has become equal to air fare. Ajay Kumar said, “Trains are getting late. Car parking prices have increased in cities. The discount of Rs 8600 crore given by Congress to senior citizens in Railways has been taken away from them. However, WhatsApp uncles and aunties will never understand this.
‘Railway fare increased by 107%’
Describing the Railway Minister as ‘Reel Minister’, Ajay Kumar said, “Ashwini Vaishnav has increased the railway fare twice since the formation of the government in 2024. He is so clever that he says, we have increased the fare by 1 paisa or 2 paisa per kilometer, but the general public has to bear the burden of Rs 100-200.

There was a stampede in the Railways in February, the reason for which was that the Railways had installed only 17 general class coaches, whose capacity was only 1,700, whereas the government had sold 9,600 tickets.
