Yunus’ big announcement amid political storm in Bangladesh, said- elections will be held on fixed date only
Muhammad Yunus Election Statement: Professor Mohammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh, has reiterated that the general elections in the country will be held on time. He said in clear words that voting will be held on February 12 and the government has made complete preparations for it.
He shared this information on Monday through the social media platform ‘X’ after a telephone conversation with America’s Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gore.
Aim to conduct fair and peaceful elections
Professor Yunus said in his post that the people of Bangladesh have been waiting for a long time to use their franchise, which was snatched away from them by the previous dictatorial government. The main objective of the interim government is to conduct free, fair and peaceful elections so that public confidence in the democratic process can be re-established.
Discussion on many important issues like murder
According to the Chief Advisor, this telephone conversation started at around 7:30 pm Dhaka time and lasted for about half an hour. During this, many important issues like Bangladesh-US trade relations, tariff agreement, upcoming general elections, democratic transition of the country and the murder of young political activist Sharif Usman Hadi were discussed.
Openly praised Yunus’s leadership
US Special Envoy Sergio Gore openly praised Professor Yunus’s leadership in the recent tariff talks. He said that due to the efforts of the interim government, America has reduced the reciprocal tariff imposed on Bangladeshi products to 20 percent. This is being seen as a major diplomatic and economic achievement for Bangladesh.
Absconding leaders are trying to incite violence
Professor Yunus alleged that supporters of the ousted dictatorial regime were spending huge amounts of money to disrupt the election process. He also claimed that the absconding leader of that regime was trying to incite violence. However, the Chief Advisor assured that the interim government is fully prepared to deal with every challenge and the election process will not be allowed to be affected.
