Know what to do if your Aadhaar card is lost or damaged
Today Aadhar card has become the digital identity of every Indian. From opening a bank account to availing government schemes, Aadhaar card is mandatory. However, if your Aadhaar card is lost or torn, there is no need to panic. You can easily make duplicate Aadhar card.
The government has provided several options for this, including online portals, helpline numbers and offline centres. In this article, we will explain in detail how you can get a new Aadhar card without any hassle and what precautions you should take to keep it safe in future.
Aadhaar recovery through online portal
If you have internet access and your mobile number is linked to Aadhaar, this is the safest method. For this, first visit the official website of UIDAI and click on the option ‘Retrieve lost or forgotten EID/UID’ in the ‘Aadhaar Services’ section. Next, you have to enter your full name and registered mobile number or email ID.
After entering the captcha code and pressing ‘Send OTP’ button, a secret code will be sent to your mobile. On submitting the code, your lost Aadhaar number or enrollment ID will be sent to your phone via SMS. After this you can download and print your e-Aadhaar card from the same portal.
helpline number 1947
If you do not have a smartphone or are not aware of the online process, the Government of India’s toll-free helpline service, 1947, will prove to be very useful for you. By calling this number you can talk directly to the customer service representative. They will ask you for some basic information, such as your name, date of birth, and home address, to verify your identity.
Once your information matches government records, they will provide you with your Enrollment ID (EID). After this you can find out your Aadhaar number through the automated IVRS system by calling the same number again and entering your date of birth and PIN code. This service is completely free and is extremely useful for those living in remote areas.
Go to Aadhaar Center
If you do not remember your registered mobile number or you are not able to get the OTP, you can visit your nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra. You will be required to provide your identity information, after which the staff will begin the biometric matching process. In this your fingerprint or iris will be scanned.
