Kicking and punching between doctor and patient in Himachal hospital, video goes viral

A shocking incident came to light on Tuesday in Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC), the largest government hospital of Himachal Pradesh, where a scuffle broke out between a patient and a doctor. The matter escalated when there was a dispute between the two during treatment and the situation went out of hand.

Patients came to the hospital for endoscopy treatment

According to sources, the patient had come to the hospital for his endoscopy treatment. There was an argument between the doctor and the patient regarding lying on the bed. During this, the patient started kicking the doctor and the doctor also responded with punches. It is being said that the doctor beat the patient on his bed.

Someone recorded the video of the incident, which is now going viral on social media and the internet. In the video, people present nearby are seen trying to intervene, but the doctor reprimanded them too. The video is only 16 seconds long, yet it has created a stir throughout the hospital and health system.

IGMC hospital management has started investigation into the matter. Hospital’s MS Dr. Rahul Rao said that a preliminary inquiry has been ordered and necessary action will be taken after the report comes.

Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu also took cognizance of this matter and directed the hospital management to immediately investigate. He also said that such incidents are harmful for the image of health institutions and strict action should be taken against the culprits.

What did the patient’s family members say?

The patient’s family members say that the doctor misbehaved with them and the patient protested against it. After this controversy, the patient’s family members are adamant on demanding the dismissal of the doctor and an apology. If the hospital management does not take action, they are warning of agitation.

Apart from this, the patient’s family has lodged a complaint against the doctor at the local police station in Shimla. It is being told that the police have registered a case against the doctor in this matter and the process of further legal action has been started.

This case highlights the need for a review of safety and professional behavior at the state’s largest hospital. Only after the investigation is completed, it will be clear to what level the dispute escalated and against whom action will be taken.
