Niclas Fullkrug is on the ground in Italy and is ready to complete the final formalities of his move from West Ham United to Milan, but there are reports the option to buy is worth only €5m.

The Rossoneri have secured an agreement with West Ham for the services of the 32-year-old centre-forward, who is expected to join on loan with an option to buy in the region of €11m to €13m.

However, Sky Sport Italia are claiming this evening that the true cost of the option is closer to just €5m and the loan is free of charge.

The 24-time Germany international is set to have his medical in the city of Milan on TuesdayDecember 23 according to the latest updates. He is expected to train under Massimiliano Allegri for the first time on Wednesday, Christmas Eve.

Milan have sought to bring in a new centre-forward to provide Allegri with more options to play up front in his 3-5-2. As things stand, Santiago Gimenez is the only ‘traditional’ no.9 in the Rossoneri ranks, and he is set to be unavailable through injury for another few months.

Rafael Leao, Christian Pulisic and Christopher Nkunku are the other go-to options, but they have not been without their fair share of injury and fitness concerns either in 2025-26.

Fullkrug is expected to be announced as a new Milan player at the very beginning of the January transfer window, which officially opens on January 2 in Italy.

After a recent change in rulesMilan will now be able to name Fullkrug in their matchday squad to face Cagliari on January 2 as long as his transfer is formally processed by 15.00 GMT (16.00 CET).

The German has not scored in any of his eight Premier League appearances this season, and has not started in any competition since the beginning of October. He claimed three goals and two assists from 18 appearances in the Premier League in 2024-25.
