Captaincy snatched from Akshar Patel?

According to information received from media reports, Delhi Capitals has decided to remove Akshar Patel from the captaincy for IPL 2026. Now just waiting for the official announcement. It is reported that the team management and franchise owners were not much impressed by Akshar’s performance as captain. In such a situation, he has considered KL Rahul, who has additional experience of captaincy, as his first choice for captaincy. However, no official update has come regarding this.

Delhi Capitals was at 5th position

Akshar Patel was seen captaining for the first time in IPL 2025. Delhi Capitals started the season with a bang and won 4 out of 4 matches. But everything changed after the defeat in the 5th match against Mumbai Indians. In the next 10 matches, Delhi could win only 3 and missed the playoffs by finishing 5th. Now the management is thinking of betting on experienced KL Rahul to make it to the last 4.

KL Rahul has captaincy experience

KL Rahul is one of the most experienced captains of IPL, till now he has captained in 64 matches out of which he won 32 and lost the same number. He has captained Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants. Has also taken LSG to playoffs twice. Besides, Rahul also has the experience of captaining at the international level. He has captained India in all three formats, recently in the absence of Shubman Gill, he took command of Team India in the ODI series against South Africa.
