Mohsin Naqvi to contact ICC over inappropriate behaviour from Indian players in U19 Asia Cup final

Earlier, Sarfaraz, who had led Pakistan to success over India in the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy, slammed the Indian players for their conduct in the final.

Pakistan U-19 team mentor Sarfaraz Ahmed accused the Indian players of behaving inappropriately during the final of the Asia Cup final in Dubai. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) head Mohsin Naqvi has decided to approach the International Cricket Council (ICC) over provocative behaviour by Indian players.

Pakistan were impressive in the final against India at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai. After scoring 347 for eight in 50 overs, they dismissed the arch-rivals for 156 in 26.2 to register a 191-run win. The victory earned Pakistan their second U-19 Asia Cup trophy in the tournament’s history.

Naqvi was present during the reception hosted by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the U-19 team. He spoke about the conduct of the Indian players and mentioned that the PCB would contact the ICC.

“Indian players kept provoking our players during the final. We will inform the ICC about their behaviour as you can’t mix poltics with sports,” he said.

Earlier, Sarfaraz, who had led Pakistan to success over India in the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy, slammed the Indian players for their conduct in the final.

“Indian players behaved inappropriately and their conduct was against the spirit of the game. Despite their questionable behaviour, we didn’t cross the line during our celebrations. Cricket should be played in the right spirit,” he said.

This is not the first time things have escalated between the two countries. In the senior men’s Asia Cup, both cricket bodies lodged complaints over behaviour of the players in three matches, including the final.

Suryakumar Yadav was fined for his comments during one of the games, while Jasprit Bumrah was warned for his gesture in the final. Haris Rauf was fined and banned for two matches for celebrations, while Sahibzada Farhan was reprimanded.
