Gujarat: Ahmedabad Polo Tournament will start from January 2!

Gujarat Polo Club is going to organize Ahmedabad Polo Tournament from 2 to 4 January in the new year. This is an important step towards reviving the game and establishing it as a major annual sporting event in the state.

Six top teams will participate in this premier competition, which include Jindal Group, Adani Group and two women’s teams. Designed as a celebration of sports, culture and heritage, the event aims to go beyond the competitions and provide a holistic experience for the spectators which will include heritage exhibitions, horse shows, family friendly spectator zone and engagement opportunities for youth.

The polo tournament will begin with a grand ceremonial parade in which all six polo teams will participate on horseback, carrying illuminated sponsors and team flags, setting the tone for the three-day event.

The inauguration ceremony will also see a special performance by ‘Warrior Squad’ with a group of 80 dancers. This group has made its presence felt in the international reality show ‘America’s Got Talent’. The tournament trophy will be unveiled by actress and former Miss World Manushi Chhillar.

This program will continue for all three days. The second day will feature Bollywood dance performances and gravity-defying stunts by the famous acrobatic dance crew ‘V Unbeatable’.

The dance performance on the third day will be followed by the Mallakhamb performance, which will conclude with a Tron act in a spectacular finale. There will be musical performances along with the matches on all three days, after which there will be a special fireworks display.

Arpan Gupta, promoter, Gujarat Polo Club, said, “The Ahmedabad Polo Tournament aims to honor India’s deep connection with polo and shape its future. Polo has a royal heritage in the country.

Our Maharajas have defeated the British in this game. We have to teach this game to our young generation. “Our aim is not just to create a tournament, but to set a wonderful cultural milestone for the region.”

Sanjay Paladia, promoter of Gujarat Polo Club, said, “Polo is a tradition that not only needs to be remembered but also lived. The larger objective behind the tournament is to give polo a national level recognition in Gujarat and Western India.

Ahmedabad’s sports culture, infrastructure and growing equestrian community make it a natural venue for the tournament. We want to revive the legacy of polo. Along with this, we also want to provide a modern, world-class experience.”

The closing ceremony will feature synchronized fireworks, laser display and light choreography, after which the awards will be distributed. The winners and best performers will be felicitated on a specially designed platform that reflects the prestige and tradition of the sport.

Organized by the Adani Group, this polo tournament aims to revive the ‘game of kings’ in Gujarat and start an annual sporting tradition that combines heritage, culture and sports.
