Patiala: A shocking incident happened on Monday in Patiala city of Punjab, where former IPS officer Amar Singh Chahal tried to commit suicide by shooting himself. After being seriously injured, he was immediately admitted to the hospital, where doctors performed a three-hour complex surgery to save his life. Police have found a 12-page note from the spot, in which Chahal has accused cyber thugs of defrauding him of Rs 8.10 crore. This case highlights the seriousness of cyber fraud, in which even experienced people like former police officers can get trapped.
Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Varun Sharma said that Chahal’s condition still remains critical and his treatment is going on. According to doctors, the bullet had hit him in his chest and got stuck in his lungs, which was removed during surgery. He will be kept under observation for the next 12 to 24 hours.
the whole matter
After this sensational incident in Patiala, police and investigating agencies have become alert. When Amar Singh Chahal was taken to the hospital, his condition was very bad and a lot of blood had been lost. After stabilizing his condition, the doctors performed the surgery, which lasted about three hours. The surgery was successful and the bullet was removed. At present, the doctor and his team are scanning the city to ensure that there is no other problem.
Disclosure in suicide note
In the note received by the police, Amar Chahal has made serious allegations against the thugs. This note is addressed to Punjab Police Director General Gaurav Yadav. Chahal claimed that the fraudsters were running WhatsApp and Telegram groups in the name of F-777 DBS Wealth Equity Research Group. He made false promises by claiming himself to be associated with DBS Bank and its CEO. The fraudsters lured huge profits through stock trading, IPO allotment, OTC trade and quantitative funds.
How did the scam happen?
The former IPS officer said in the note that the swindlers created fake dashboards to win trust, in which inflated profits were shown. Gradually, large sums of money were collected from investors and pressure was put on reinvesting the profits. In the name of withdrawal of money, crores of rupees were demanded in the form of service fees, taxes and additional charges. Despite bank transfer the amount was never returned. Chahal called it an organized scam in which many people are involved.
Demand for scrutiny and emotional pain
Amar Chahal has appealed in the note that an SIT should be constituted to investigate the matter or it should be handed over to a central agency, so that the trail of money can be traced. He mentioned deep sorrow, financial loss and mental anguish. Chahal wrote that he was feeling embarrassed and broken. He apologized to his family and colleagues and said that no one other than scammers is responsible for this decision.
police action
SP City Palwinder Singh Cheema said that Chahal’s friends had given a letter in which the possibility of suicide was expressed. As soon as the information was received, the police reached the spot and he was taken to the hospital in an injured condition. The police is thoroughly investigating every aspect.
Secret revealed through note
In a letter addressed to Punjab Police Director General Gaurav Yadav, Amar Singh Chahal has written… Sir, I have to say with great sadness that along with ruining my family, I have also raised questions on the image of Punjab Police. It is unfortunate that despite being an officer of Punjab Police, I myself could not take necessary precautions. I would be grateful if any culprit is caught in this case and recovery of the defrauded amount becomes possible.
If possible, some part of that amount should be given to my family, so that they can pay the people from whom I had borrowed this money. I want to warn the common people to be extremely cautious of such scammers. I myself became a victim of their extremely sophisticated and planned methods. This is a highly organized and cunning scamsters group, which requires the formation of a dedicated special investigation team to get to the bottom of it and expose the entire network, so that the culprits can be punished.
Sir, if you feel suitable, this case can also be handed over to CBI or any special cell of Punjab Police. I also want to clarify that I used my gunman’s rifle, as I did not have any weapon of my own.
Amar Chahal has been an accused in the Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura police firing that took place after sacrilege in Faridkot in 2015. In February 2023, the SIT of Punjab Police had filed a charge sheet in this case, in which the names of many politicians and senior police officers were included.
