The Central Government has decided to remove him from the post of Director General of NIA (National Investigation Agency) with immediate effect and send him to his parent cadre Maharashtra. This proposal has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

On the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued the official order on 22 December 2025. Under this, IPS Sadanand Date will no longer be NIA DG and will take up new responsibility in Maharashtra cadre. Information about this decision has also been given to the Prime Minister’s Office, Home Ministry, Cabinet Secretariat and Maharashtra Government.

IPS Sadanand Date is the same officer who boldly faced terrorists Ajmal Kasab and Abu Ismail during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
