Outrage over the murder of Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh, demonstration outside Bangladeshi High Commission in Delhi
There is anger across the country regarding the murder of Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh. On Tuesday, a large number of protesters protested outside the Bangladeshi High Commission in Delhi. Activists of Hindu organizations were seen holding posters of Mohammad Yunus and raising slogans like ‘Bangladesh Boycott’ and ‘A voice for the Hindus of Bangladesh’. During this time, workers of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other organizations broke the initial barricades and moved ahead, after which a tense situation was created on the spot.
In view of the proposed demonstration of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), security arrangements were tightened around the Bangladesh High Commission since Tuesday morning. A large number of paramilitary forces along with police force were deployed in the area. Barricading was done at several levels to stop the protesters from moving towards the High Commission. Despite this, a large number of protesters were successful in breaking the first barricade. However, security forces stopped them before they could reach the High Commission and controlled the situation.
There is anger in the Hindu community across the world regarding the murder of Dipu Chandra Das. Apart from India, demonstrations have also been held in Nepal demanding justice for Dipu. At the same time, the issue of alleged atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh has been raised from America to the United Nations. This incident has also raised concern at the international level.
After the death of student leader Sharif Usman Hadi last week, unrest once again spread in Bangladesh. Hadi was a prominent face of the anti-government protests that led to the overthrow of then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. During the recent protests, some groups also raised slogans against India. Meanwhile, Dipu Chandra Das, belonging to the Hindu community, was brutally murdered in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. It is alleged that after the murder, his body was hanged from a tree and burnt. This incident has created outrage not only in Bangladesh but also internationally.
Attempt to attack Indian High Commission in Bangladesh
A group of protesters in Bangladesh tried to storm India’s Assistant High Commission in Chittagong. Following this incident, India temporarily suspended visa services at its missions. India on Wednesday summoned Bangladeshi diplomat Riyaz Hamidullah and expressed its deep concern over some extremist elements planning to create insecurity around the Indian mission in Dhaka.
