Key Points:

England players have been accused of excessive drinking during the break taken in Noosa between the Ashes series. After these allegations, ECB has decided to investigate. The management says that in the initial reports the behavior of the players has been described as fine.

Delhi: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has decided to investigate the allegations made during the Ashes series. There are allegations that captain Ben Stokes and some players of the team drank excessive alcohol during the mid-series break. England had to face defeat by 82 runs in the Adelaide Test. With this, England suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in the Ashes series in Australia.

Before the third Test, the England team had taken a break of four days and the players had gone to Noosa for a holiday. This decision was criticized by many former Australian players. Later reports came out that during this period some players drank alcohol excessively.

ECB will investigate the allegations against players

Amidst these allegations, England team managing director Rob Key said that the matter will be investigated. He clearly said that drinking excessive alcohol is not good behavior for an international team. However, he also said that according to initial information, the players had behaved properly.

Rob Key said that if it comes to light that players drank too much alcohol, it would be a serious matter. He also added that the team’s behavior should not be like a bachelor party. However, he also said that if the players sit together and eat food and occasionally have a light drink, then there is no problem in it.

Warning was given on New Zealand tour

Rob Key also told that Jacob Bethel and Harry Brook had been warned earlier. During the New Zealand tour, before the third ODI, a video of both of them had surfaced, in which they were seen in a bar. This was considered a warning to the team so that the players understand that everything is under control during the Australia tour.

England’s position in Australia has continued to be bad. The team’s last Test win there was in 2011 when it was captained by Andrew Strauss. Since then, England has played 18 Tests in Australia, out of which 16 have been lost and two have been drawn.

There are still two tests left in the series. Ben Stokes and his team will try to somehow end this tour with respect. If this does not happen, England may have to suffer a 5-0 defeat for the fourth time in Ashes history.
