Jacob Duffy breaks Richard Hadley’s 40 year old record

New Delhi 23 December 2025: Breaks 40-Year-Old Record The last match of the 3-match Test series between West Indies and New Zealand was played at Mount Maunganui. In the fourth inning of this match, New Zealand’s fast bowler Jacob Duffy took five wickets for 42 runs, due to which New Zealand won by 323 runs on the fifth day of the third Test. With this, New Zealand won the three-match series 2-0. West Indies were given a huge target of 462 runs to win. On the morning of the fifth day, the Caribbean team took its second lead by 43 runs without losing any wicket, but the entire team was all out for 138 runs.

Jacob Duffy broke Richard Hadlee’s record by taking 80 wickets for New Zealand in a calendar year. He took a total of 23 wickets in this series at an average of 15.4 and took five or more wickets in an inning thrice. Duffy made his Test debut for New Zealand against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo on 7 August 2025 and has taken 25 wickets in just four Test matches in 2025.

Jacob Duffy said, “I looked at the list at lunch, there were a lot of great players on it. It’s very special to be included on this list.” Duffy was named Player of the Series as he performed brilliantly despite injuries to some key fast bowlers and played a key role in New Zealand’s victory. The first Test between the two teams was a draw while New Zealand won the second Test by nine wickets.

Record of 1439 runs in test match
In the third Test against West Indies, New Zealand declared its first innings at 575 runs for eight wickets, in response to which West Indies scored 420 runs. New Zealand declared its second innings at 306 runs for two wickets. Captain Tom Latham and Devon Conway scored centuries in both the innings. After West Indies were all out for 138 runs in the second innings, the total score of four innings was 1439, which is also the best score in any Test match between the two teams.
