Hang Dipu’s killers…Protest outside Bangladesh High Commission, barricades demolished, police had to struggle

New Delhi: Last week in Delhi, workers of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal and other Hindu organizations held a strong protest against the alleged murder of a Hindu youth in Bangladesh in mob violence. The demonstration was organized outside the Bangladesh High Commission, where hundreds of people gathered and raised slogans against the Bangladesh government. The protesters were angry over the murder of 25-year-old Dipu Chandra Das, whom they considered a victim of religious violence.

Strict security arrangements

Anticipating the demonstration, Delhi Police had already tightened security around the High Commission. Three levels of barricading was done in the area and about 15,000 additional policemen and paramilitary forces were deployed. Despite this, the situation became tense when a large number of protesters broke the barricades and started moving forward. The police had to put in a lot of effort to control them. Many protesters were carrying banners and placards with emotional and angry slogans written on them.

demands of protesters

People participating in the protest said that what happened to Dipu Das was not only inhuman but also a serious example of religious intolerance. One protester said that they demand from the Indian government that this matter should be taken up seriously at the diplomatic level. Besides, he also demanded strict action from the Bangladesh government and the police there against the culprits. The protesters believed that justice would remain incomplete until the culprits were punished.

What is Dipu Das murder case?

According to the information, on December 18, Dipu Das, who worked in a garment factory in Bangladesh, was accused of blasphemy. After the allegations were made, his supervisors forced him to resign and then handed him over to a furious mob. The mob beat him brutally, after which he was murdered. Not only this, his body was hanged on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway and set on fire. This incident created outrage in many countries including India.

Bangladesh government’s response

Bangladesh government has expressed strong objection to the protests in Delhi. The Dhaka-based Foreign Ministry issued a statement calling it against diplomatic decorum and summoned the Indian Ambassador to register its protest. The statement said that such acts not only jeopardize the security of diplomatic institutions, but also harm the values of mutual respect and peace.

Impact in other cities also

Apart from Delhi, demonstrations against Bangladesh were also seen in Kolkata. Due to this, the security of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka has also been increased. Armed police forces have been deployed there and additional surveillance is being maintained in sensitive areas. There is an atmosphere of tension at the diplomatic level regarding this incident between the two countries.
