Vijay Hazare Trophy match proposed from tomorrow at M Chinnaswamy Stadium canceled due to security reasons, police did not give permission

New Delhi. The Vijay Hazare Trophy match to be held on December 24 at the historic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore will not be played at present. Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh clarified on Tuesday that permission has not been given to organize the match in the stadium. This decision has been taken on the basis of the recommendation of a special committee constituted by the state government.

Green signal not given even without audience

Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) had sought permission from the administration to hold the match without spectators, but despite this, the police and administration refused permission citing security reasons. Talking to the media, the Police Commissioner said that there should not be any confusion in this matter, because the permission has been clearly rejected on the basis of the committee report.

Let us tell you that on June 4 in 2025, during the celebration of the IPL victory of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), there was a stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. 11 people died in this accident, while many were injured. Since then, there was a ban on organizing cricket matches in the stadium and a comprehensive review of the security arrangements was started.

Committee formed on the instructions of the Home Minister

Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara (Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara) had constituted a committee regarding permission for matches in the stadium. Apart from the Commissioner of Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), this committee included the Commissioner of Police, Public Works Department, Fire, Health Department and officials of BESCOM. The committee inspected the stadium on Monday and examined various security-related aspects.

The Home Minister had already written a letter to KSCA making it mandatory to follow the security recommendations based on 17 points. The committee was given the responsibility to check which of these points had been implemented. However, at present the complete details of the report have not been made public.

Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said that he himself is a member of the committee, hence cannot share the inner details of the report. He made it clear that on the basis of the departmental report, permission has not been given for the match on 24th December.
