Seeing the seriousness of the incident, the police and fire brigade teams reached the spot and only after hours of consultation, the young man was brought down safely. This high-voltage drama not only raised questions on law and order but also started debate on social and moral aspects.

Brother-in-law’s insistence on mobile tower and commotion in the village

In Gopalpur village of Sahar police station area, Shahruddin started sitting on the tower with his demand for marriage with his sister-in-law. The police and villagers kept trying to convince him for hours, but the young man remained adamant on his insistence. Shahruddin is already married and has a one and a half year old son, yet he insisted on a second marriage.

Landed safely with the help of police and sister-in-law

The police called the young man’s sister-in-law Ruby and his father on phone to bring him down. As soon as the sister-in-law said ‘yes’ to the marriage, Shahruddin decided to come down from the tower. Inspector Ramesh Singh of Sahar police station said that the youth has been detained in the case of disturbance in a public place and challenging law and order.

The young man had warned the police that if his demands were not met, he would set himself on fire. The alertness of the people present at the spot and the police helped in averting a major accident. The police immediately took the youth into custody and started investigating the case.

Shahruddin’s family members told that he left the house at 9.30 am on Monday and climbed the tower. As soon as he sat on the tower, he reiterated his insistence on marrying his sister-in-law. The family informed the police, only then the matter was brought under control. The young man told the police, “Now that I have fallen in love with my sister-in-law, there is no option left for me except marrying her.”
