The strength of the women’s regiment will be seen in ‘Azad Bharat’, said Rupa Iyer!

The tradition of patriotic films has been going on in the entertainment world for a long time, but this time director Rupa Iyer is coming with a film named ‘Azad Bharat’, which will bring the saga of forgotten freedom fighters to the audience.

Speaking to IANS, director Rupa Iyer said, “Reading about Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose during my school days holds a special place in my heart. Later, reading many stories and messages of INA further increased my interest.

When I learned about Neera Arya, her story seemed different and very impactful. I was looking for something meaningful online and this journey began from there.”

The director told that he had met Netaji’s great granddaughter Rajshree Chaudhary and later many stories of INA were revealed to me. He said, “After meeting Rajshree Choudhary, I came to know about the real stories of Madhavan ji, Meenakshi Amman ji and Lakshmi ji who were associated with INA. At that time I understood that the stories of our unsung heroes should be brought back for today’s generation.”

The director said, “This film is not just about Netaji or Neera Arya, it also has the story of Chhajjuram ji, Bhagat Singh ji and many brave women warriors like Saraswati Rajamani ji and Durga ji, who sacrificed everything for the country.”

She further said, “I wanted to bring their stories to the people. They had become an important part of my life while writing this story. This is a fictional story inspired by real events. It is difficult to show the entire journey of INA in a film. This is a fictional story inspired by real events, which tries to bring that feeling alive.”

In this film, Rupa has acted along with directing. Regarding the film, she said, “Many films have been made on Netaji, but we have focused on the Jhansi Regiment and the women warriors. We have shown the hard training of women, learning to fight and fighting the war without any special help.”

Regarding casting in the film, Rupa said that it was a game of luck. Shreyas Talpade’s looks, body language and style match perfectly for the role of Netaji. Saraswati Rajamani wanted real presence, not glamour. There are no heroes and heroines in the film, there are only patriots. Every character has equal contribution.
