Shahbaz government shaken by the announcement of ‘Black Day’, broke silence in the name of Imran, opened the doors of dialogue
Pakistan News In Hindi: Once again, turmoil is being seen in Pakistan’s politics in Islamabad. Tehreek Tahaffuz Ain-e-Pakistan (TTAP), a coalition of opposition parties, has announced to celebrate ‘Black Day’ on February 8, opening a front against the failures of the government.
This is the same date when the current government came to power in February 2023. The opposition says that this government is neither democratically legitimate nor has it been successful in getting the country out of the economic and political crisis.
Serious questions on democratic institutions
In the national conference of TTAP held on 21 December, opposition leaders raised serious questions on Pakistan’s deteriorating economy, deteriorating law and order and weakening of democratic institutions. It was also said in the conference that in the current situation the country deserves a new ‘Democratic Charter’ in which a clear outline of dialogue between the government and the opposition is fixed.
Sharif himself came forward and offered talks
After this announcement of the opposition, the restlessness of the government was clearly visible. While earlier the ruling party leaders were seen avoiding taking the name of Imran Khan, now Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif himself has come forward and repeated the offer of talks. During the federal cabinet meeting held in Islamabad, Shehbaz Sharif said that if the opposition is ready then the government is also fully ready for dialogue, but this dialogue will be only on ‘legitimate and constitutional issues’ But it will happen.
The Prime Minister also made it clear that any kind of blackmailing under the guise of talks will not be tolerated. He said that harmony and cooperation among political parties is necessary for the progress and stability of the country.
Talks begin between government and opposition
In the cabinet meeting, Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar stressed the need for a new national political charter based on tolerance and dialogue. Meanwhile, Prime Minister’s advisor Rana Sanaullah said that political stability is possible only through restraint, mutual respect and continuous dialogue.
However, this is not the first time that the government has proposed talks. According to the Dawn newspaper, talks had also started between the government and the opposition in late December 2024, but no consensus could be reached on issues like investigation into the protests of 9 May 2023 and 26 November 2024 and the release of PTI leaders.
Action against PTI intensified
PTI has been rejecting the government’s proposals in the past also. Party leaders allege that on one hand the government talks about talks, while on the other hand it intensifies action against PTI. Recently, the opposition in the National Assembly and Senate had also expressed strong protest against the rule of law and the restrictions imposed on meetings with Imran Khan.

Political analysts believe that real power is still in the hands of Pakistan’s army and intelligence agencies. In such a situation, many people are considering the government’s offer for talks as just an attempt to avoid international pressure and a deteriorating image. The question is whether this dialogue will actually strengthen democracy or will it prove to be just another political strategy to buy time.
