Winter vacation in High Court, judicial work stalled till this date
In Chhattisgarh High Court winter The vacation (Chhattisgarh High Court Winter Vacation) has formally started. According to the order issued by the High Court, judicial work will be affected till December 31.
However, during the holiday period, the registry will remain open on December 23 and 24, so that advocates and parties will be able to file new petitions. The petitions filed on both these days will be duly accepted. After this, the High Court registry will remain completely closed from December 26 to December 31.
In the order issued by the Registrar General of the High Court, it has been clarified that after the winter vacation (Chhattisgarh High Court Winter Vacation), regular work in the court will start from January 1.
It is noteworthy that the High Court already has a holiday on the second and fourth Saturday of every month, hence judicial activities will be limited in the last week of December.
Meanwhile, the High Court has also released the holiday calendar of the district courts for the year 2026. This calendar includes detailed information about national festivals, religious festivals, summer and winter holidays throughout the year.
According to the released list, there will be holidays on major occasions like Republic Day, Holi, Ramnavmi, Mahavir Jayanti, Good Friday, Ambedkar Jayanti, Eid-ul-Fitr, Bakrid, Moharram, Rakshabandhan, Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Gandhi Jayanti, Dussehra, Diwali, Guru Nanak Jayanti, Guru Ghasidas Jayanti and Christmas.
Holiday calendar of district courts also declared
As per the instructions of the High Court, there will be a holiday in the district courts on the second and third Saturday of every month. In the year 2026, summer vacation has been declared from 18 May to 12 June and winter vacation from 24 December to 31 December. Changes in the dates of festivals like Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Azha and Moharram are possible as they depend on the sighting of the moon.
Apart from this, local holidays declared at the district level will be applicable only after the announcement of the Collector. The District Court will recognize any holiday declared by the State Government only when it gets approval from the Standing Committee of the High Court.
Employees of District Courts have been allowed three optional leaves in a year and judicial officers have been allowed a maximum of 15 days leave. Due to Chhattisgarh High Court Winter Vacation, litigants and advocates have been advised to decide their judicial action plan in advance.
