Australia got a 440 volt shock! Ashes series over for Pat Cummins…Out of T20 World Cup too?

The 2025-26 Ashes series is over for Australia captain Pat Cummins. He was unavailable for the first two Tests, but played in the third. Australia won all three Tests to clinch the series, but it is now being reported that Cummins has won the remaining two Tests. He is already out of the fourth Test. The reason for this is his injury, from which he has recovered, but considering his long-term health, he is currently being kept out of the Test team. However, one piece of news is like a 440-volt current for Australia, as it may also be out of the 2026 T20 World Cup.

The 2026 T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka in February-March, but according to a report by ESPNcricinfo, Australia’s team selectors and medical staff may advise him to stay away from the mega event. Australia’s squad for the Boxing Day Test has been announced, but does not include Pat Cummins. Hours after the selection, head coach Andrew MacDonald said Cummins’ streak ended after one match, helping to win the Ashes.

Pat Cummins was diagnosed with a groin strain on the West Indies tour after the final of the 2025 World Test Championship, but after an aggressive rehabilitation program, he bowled brilliantly in Adelaide, taking six wickets and leading Australia to an 82-run victory. Ahead of the fourth Test, Australia coach Andrew McDonald said, “He’s recovered. He won’t play a role for the rest of the series and we’ve been discussing his return for a long time.”

He added, “We were taking some risks and those who have reported on that will understand the risks associated with rebuilding. We’ve won the series now and that was our goal. So, we don’t want to take any more risks and put him at risk for a long time and Pat is really happy with that.” McDonald added that a decision would be made on Tuesday after discussions with other selectors.

Cummins has not played a single T20 match for Australia since the last T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and America in mid-2024. IPL 2026 will begin immediately after the next season in India and Sri Lanka, where Cummins will lead Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). On Cummins’ chances for the T20 World Cup, McDonald said, “It will be an assessment. I think at some point he will have a check-in scan and gather more information about his back. Looking forward to the World Cup whether he will be there. I can’t really say. It’s very unclear at the moment. We hope so.”
