Kapil Sharma’s troubles increased, case registered in Delhi High Court

Kapil Sharma’s show embroiled in legal dispute

Mumbai: Comedy king Kapil Sharma’s popular Netflix show ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’ has once again fallen into legal trouble. The fourth season of this show has been released recently and the audience is liking it a lot, but now a big controversy is creating a stir regarding the third season. Phonographic Performance Limited India has filed a petition in the Bombay High Court against Kapil Sharma, the producers of the show and Netflix.

Use of songs without license

In this petition, it has been alleged that three famous Bollywood songs were used in the show without license. According to the information, PPL India filed this commercial petition on 12 December 2025. The third season of the show, which aired between June and September 2025, included songs such as ‘M Bole To’ (from the film Munnabhai MBBS), ‘Rama Re’ (from the film Kaante) and ‘Subah Hone Na De’ (from the film Desi Boyz). Stars like Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor were guests in one episode, while Sanjay Dutt and Suniel Shetty also appeared on the show.

Kapil Sharma’s troubles increased

PPL India says that under the Copyright Act, any sound recording must have the necessary license to perform it publicly. The show is first recorded in front of a live audience, where the songs are heard, and then streamed on Netflix. The makers did not take any kind of permission, which is against the rules. In November, before filing the petition, PPL had sent a cease and desist notice to Netflix and the producers, but did not receive any satisfactory response.

Petition in court for monitoring

PPL has demanded from the court that further use of their copyrighted songs in the show should be banned. Besides, an appeal has also been made to give account of the income earned from unauthorized use. It has been requested of the court to appoint a receiver who can seize the infringing material. The case will soon be taken up for hearing in the commercial division of the Bombay High Court. Meanwhile, there has been no official statement from Kapil Sharma, Netflix or the production team on this legal issue.
