Neither DA will end, nor retirement benefits will stop, know the whole truth of viral claims
8th Pay Commission Fact Check: Every day new things are going viral on social media regarding the 8th Pay Commission. Recently it was claimed on WhatsApp and some other platforms that DA, DR and retirement benefits will be abolished as soon as the 8th Pay Commission is implemented. This news increased the concern of about 69 lakh central pensioners. But now the truth of this entire matter has come to light.
The news of ending DA and retirement benefits is completely fake.
PIB Fact Check, the government’s official fact-checking agency, has rejected these claims outright. PIB has clearly said that even after the 8th Pay Commission, all the benefits related to DA (Dearness Allowance), DR (Dearness Relief) and pension will continue as before. The news being spread on social media is misleading and baseless.
Misunderstanding spread after Terms of Reference
Actually, after the Terms of Reference (ToR) of the 8th Central Pay Commission came out, speculations regarding salary and pension had increased. Taking advantage of this, some people spread the lie that under the Finance Act 2025, pensioners will be kept out of the purview of the Pay Commission. PIB clarified that there is no such provision.
Changes in Rule 37, but no impact on common pensioners
The government said that the change made in Rule 37 of CCS (Pension) Rules, 2021, will be applicable only to those employees who have been removed from service due to serious indiscipline after being absorbed in PSU. This has nothing to do with ordinary pensioners. The rights of general pensioners are completely protected.

No proposal to merge DA-DR into basic pay
The Finance Ministry has also made it clear in the Parliament that at present there is no proposal to merge DA and DR into basic pay. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said that the 8th Pay Commission will give recommendations on salary, allowances and pension. That means there is absolutely no need for pensioners to panic.
