Meteorological Department’s alert regarding increased cold, fog and cold wave in UP-Delhi

New Delhi . Nature’s double strike has started from the plains of North India to the mountain peaks. The double attack of dense fog and icy winds has badly affected life. Although the minimum temperatures in most areas of North India are currently slightly above normal, the drop in day temperatures has created cold day-like conditions. India Meteorological Department has issued a warning that the torture of cold is going to increase in many states including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi in the coming days.

According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, dense to very dense fog will persist in the states of North India till December 27. Especially in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, visibility may reach near zero during morning and late night hours for the next few days. Dense fog is also expected in Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh between 24 and 27 December. Visibility has dropped to 150 meters in areas like Palam in Delhi, which is likely to impact traffic and flights.

While fog and cold wave are wreaking havoc in the plains, snowfall and rain have started in the hilly states. Moderate snowfall has been predicted in the higher reaches of Kashmir and light rain in the plains. Yellow alert has been issued for areas like Bilaspur, Una and Mandi of Himachal Pradesh. According to Shimla Meteorological Department, there may be heavy snowfall in the high hilly areas on December 28, which will have a direct impact on the temperature in the plains and the cold will increase there.

States like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar are also not untouched by this cold. Pali and Sirohi in Rajasthan have recorded minimum temperatures between 8 to 9 degrees Celsius. There is a possibility of dense fog in North Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha till December 27. Talking about Delhi, the maximum temperature here is expected to be between 16 to 18 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature can be between 8 to 11 degrees Celsius. The weather will remain cold even during the upcoming Christmas festival. There may be light fog in the morning in Delhi and surrounding areas on December 25, although the sky is expected to remain clear during the day.

Meteorologists say that after December 28, when the icy winds from the mountains will move towards the plains, then the real outbreak of cold wave will be seen. In such a situation, the administration has advised people to take precautions to avoid cold and drive carefully during dense fog.
