What are the new rules?
Now devotees will have to start the journey within 10 hours of getting the RFID card. Earlier there was no such strict time limit, due to which many people started climbing late. After darshan, maximum time of 24 hours has been given to return back to Katra. Earlier, there was permission to stay in the building area for several days, which increased the risk of traffic jams and accidents.
The Shrine Board says that these rules will reduce crowding on the track, rescue operations will speed up in case of emergency and the darshan will be completed quickly. Especially women, children and elderly devotees will feel more safe.

The distance from Katra to Bhawan is about 13 kilometers. For a healthy person walking, it takes 6-8 hours to climb and the same time to descend. On normal days, the entire journey is completed in 24-36 hours, but due to heavy crowd on New Year, the time may increase. The facility of horse, stooge, battery car or helicopter is also available for the journey.
How to reach Mata Vaishno Devi?
If you travel by train then the train comes from Jammu Tawi station. Katra is 50 kilometers away from here, it can be reached in one and a half hour by bus or taxi. If you travel by airplane, Jammu airport is 70 kilometers away from Katra and Srinagar airport is 200 kilometers away. Taxis or buses are available from both places. Apart from this, you can travel by bus or private taxi, you will get it from Jammu or Pathankot.
Online registration required
Online registration is mandatory for Vaishno Devi Yatra. This can be done easily from the website of the Shrine Board. The registration counter at Katra railway station remains open till 12 midnight. The board has appealed to all the devotees to follow the new rules so that the journey remains simple and safe.
