15 Nilgai shot in Bihar, efforts to save farmers’ crops
Desk: In Bihar, Nilgai destroys the crops of farmers on a large scale. Be it Mokama Tal area or everywhere in Nawada, the menace of Nilgai is not showing signs of decreasing. After the continuous loss of crops in Nawada, the district administration has issued an order to shoot Nilgai on sight. So far 10 to 15 Nilgai have been shot in the district. This action has been taken in Mahuli Panchayat of the district.

More than 4 thousand Nilgai killed in the state: According to the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department of Bihar, crops have been damaged due to Nilgai in many districts of the state in the last one year. After which the decision was taken to kill 4,279 Nilgai.
Campaign to save crops: While answering a question in the Bihar Assembly in March 2025, Minister Sunil Kumar had said that till February 2024-25, about 4,279 Nilgai had been killed in the districts of the state. A campaign was started in various districts regarding this. Such a step was taken on the basis of complaints received from farmers as wild animals were destroying the crops.
Most victims in Gopalganj: According to Minister Sunil Kumar, till February 2024-25, maximum 3,057 Nilgai were killed in Vaishali. After this, 685 Nilgai were killed in Gopalganj, 256 in Samastipur, 124 in Muzaffarpur, 71 in Sitamarhi, 48 in Munger, 18 in Saran, 14 in Begusarai, 6 in Nalanda. However, there is no data on how many wild pigs have been killed in the state.
