New Delhi. In the Union Cabinet meeting today, an important decision has been taken to approve the construction of three new corridors for the expansion of Delhi Metro. Giving information, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said, this phase will be called Delhi Metro Phase 5A. A new 16 kilometer long line will be laid in it. There will be 13 stations of which 10 will be underground and 3 will be elevated. It will be constructed at a cost of Rs 12,015 crore. With this, Delhi Metro network will be more than 400 kilometers long. The construction work will be completed in three years. Construction will be done mostly using underground tunnel boring machines, which will cause minimal disruption to traffic.

Ashwini Vaishnav said that on an average 65 lakh passengers use Delhi Metro every day. On certain days, Delhi Metro carries 80 lakh people a day. Metro is a big need for Delhi today and that is why its network is being continuously expanded. According to the Union Minister, the expansion of Delhi Metro is a meaningful step taken towards reducing the increasing air pollution in Delhi. Due to the expansion of Metro, people will save both time and money. Besides, dependence on private vehicles will reduce and pollution will reduce. This will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 33 thousand tons every year, which will be a big relief for the people of Delhi NCR.
These three corridors got approval
– 9.9 km metro track will be expanded from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, which will cost Rs 9,570.4 crore.
– 2.3 km track will be laid from Aerocity to Airport Terminal-1 and it will cost Rs 1,419.6 crore.
– 3.9 kilometer track will be extended from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj and it will cost Rs 1,024.8 crore to build it.
