Maharashtra: Thackeray brothers’ alliance for BMC elections, Uddhav said – ‘We have come together to live together’

Mumbai, 24 December. After the crushing defeat in Maharashtra’s local body elections, opposition parties have come into active mode regarding the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections proposed on January 15. In this sequence, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray’s party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) have joined hands for a total of 29 municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra including BMC.

The Thackeray brothers (Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray) held a joint press conference here today and formally announced the alliance between the two parties. Uddhav Thackeray said that only Thackeray can lead Maharashtra. Referring to the Maharashtra movement, he said, ‘We got Maharashtra after the martyrdom of 107 people. At that time our grandfather was leading that movement. My father and Raj Thackeray’s father were also involved in this movement.

‘People sitting in Delhi are breaking us, this time we don’t want to break.,

Uddhav Thackeray said, ‘Years after getting Maharashtra, Shiv Sena was established for the rights of Marathi people. The same people who wanted Maharashtra earlier are now starting new efforts. We have come to stop two people sitting in Delhi. We have come together to live together and our thinking is one. We remember the struggle of Marathi people and their sacrifice. The people sitting in Delhi are breaking us. This time we don’t have to break. If this happens then the sacrifice will be insulted.

Mayor of Mumbai will be Marathi only, he will be ours – Raj Thackeray

Whereas Raj Thackeray said, ‘Maharashtra and Mumbai are bigger than any fight. Today we both brothers are together. The distribution of seats does not matter. The mayor of Mumbai will be a Marathi person, he will be ours only.

Thackeray family reached Shivaji Park together

Earlier, the Thackeray brothers reached Mumbai’s Shivaji Park. Uddhav was accompanied by his son Aditya Thackeray and Raj Thackeray was accompanied by his son Amit Thackeray. The Thackeray family reached Shivaji Park together. Before the announcement of the alliance, the Thackeray brothers paid tribute to Balasaheb Thackeray at the memorial in Shivaji Park.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi, on coming with the Thackeray brothers, said that no work of the public has been done. Public money has been looted. Rejecting the questions being raised on coming together for politics, he said, ‘Politics is a medium of service for us. This great alliance is completely false. The mayor will be ours, he will be a Marathi only.

Whereas Sanjay Raut said that this is a big day. The entire family of Balasaheb Thackeray is coming together. He also said, ‘It is a family alliance, but it is a political alliance. We will get huge benefit from this in BMC and other municipal corporation elections. BMC Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray are going to win.

20 Thackeray brothers have come together after years

It is noteworthy that Thackeray brothers have come together after 20 years. An agreement has been reached on seat sharing between the two parties. Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut reached Shivtirth and met Raj Thackeray. After this, leaders of Raj Thackeray’s party also reached Matoshree late in the evening and met Uddhav.

In fact, the alliance of both the parties was to be announced on December 23, but it was postponed by a day at the last moment. There was a tussle on some seats between Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS. Uddhav’s party was ready to give 12 to 15 seats to MNS out of the 84 seats it won in the last BMC elections. But there was a problem on the seats considered difficult.
