Decisive turn in Sanjay Kapoor’s property dispute worth Rs 30,000 crore, Delhi High Court reserves the verdict

The ongoing family dispute over the personal assets of late industrialist Sanjay Kpoor worth about Rs 30,000 crore has now reached a turning point. Delhi High Court on Wednesday reserved its decision on the petition for interim stay after completing the arguments of all the parties in this case. The bench of Justice Jyoti Singh made it clear that no new arguments or documents will be accepted now. The court’s upcoming order will decide the direction of this inheritance battle and affect the future of the property dispute.

challenge from children

The crux of the case is the alleged will of late industrialist Sanjay Kapoor, which mentions giving his entire personal property to his third wife Priya Kapoor. Karisma Kapoor and her children Samaira and Kiyan Raj Kapoor have challenged this will. His lawyer, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, told the court that there were several inconsistencies and technical flaws in the will. He said that feminine pronouns have been used in the document, Sanjay’s mother is not named, the document is not registered and it seems to have been prepared on the laptop of a third person. Jethmalani also said that Priya Kapoor is the proposer and sole beneficiary of the will, hence the court should scrutinize this document thoroughly.

Mother Rani Kapoor’s opposition

The family dispute regarding the will of late industrialist Sanjay Kapoor has deepened. His mother, Rani Kapoor, has also contested the will. His lawyer, senior advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, told the court that Sanjay was deeply attached to his children, mother and family and he could not give the entire property to Priya Kapoor alone. Rani Kapoor alleged that after Sanjay’s death, Priya Kapoor quickly tried to take control of the business and properties. The list of assets deposited in the court is also incomplete. This does not include expensive paintings, watches, bank accounts, insurance and rental income. Investigation revealed that Sanjay’s earnings were in crores, but the declared assets presented in the court showed only about Rs 1.7 crore.

Priya Kapoor’s defense

Senior advocate Rajiv Nair, appearing for Priya Kapoor in the ongoing dispute over the property of late industrialist Sanjay Kapoor, denied all the allegations in the court. Nair said the complete list of assets has been submitted to the court, including financial records and affidavits. He insisted there was no evidence of concealment or transfer of assets abroad. The court was told that Sanjay’s claim of earning Rs 60 crore annually is false. Also, an expensive Rolex watch was allegedly based on a fake social media account. He also said that some corporate steps taken after the death were based on Rani Kapoor’s emails, which he later denied. Priya’s lawyer also added that the format of the will is similar to Rani Kapoor’s 2024 will.

Written arguments of all the parties have been presented in the court. Now the interim order is awaited, which will decide whether Priya Kapoor can do any transaction with the property or not. According to experts, this case is not just a property dispute but also a test of family relationships and trust. The court’s decision is likely to come soon, which will decide the direction of this inheritance fight.
