Big scam again in Bihar Midday Meal Scheme – Headmasters in 13 districts will pay Rs 1.92 crore

Patna, 24 December. Once again a big scam has come to light in the Mid Day Meal (MDM) scheme in Bihar. This time, there are preparations to take strict action against the head teachers in 13 districts of the border and Kosi-Seemanchal region for denying food to the children and this has created a stir in the education department.

In fact, in this case of misuse of government funds, now an amount of Rs 1 crore 92 lakh 45 thousand 893 will be recovered from the headmasters. This action is being taken due to misuse of government funds and the MDM Directorate has made it clear that now negligence will not be tolerated at any level.

Irregularities have come to light in these 13 districts

The 13 districts of Bihar where this irregularity has come to light include Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Lakhisarai, Munger, apart from Kosi-Seemanchal’s Saharsa, Madhepura, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Katihar, Purnia and Khagaria.

A total of Rs 4.54 crore is to be recovered, till now only Rs 2.61 crore has been recovered.

According to the investigation report of MDM Directorate, a total of Rs 4 crore 54 lakh 24 thousand 104 was to be recovered in these districts. However, till now only Rs 2 crore 61 lakh 75 thousand 256 have been recovered while about Rs 1.92 crore are still outstanding.

The objective of the MDM scheme is to provide nutritious food to children studying in government schools, to increase enrollment and attendance in schools along with fighting malnutrition. But investigation revealed that at many places headmasters and concerned officials made serious irregularities in this scheme.

Scam done with these tricks

According to departmental sources, the irregularities include cases like misappropriation of rice, inflating the number of students, irregularities in ration material and withdrawal of funds without preparing MDM meals in many schools.
