Opener Shafali Verma created history against Sri Lanka, also left Smriti Mandhana behind
New Delhi. India’s star opening batsman Shafali Verma has overtaken Smriti Mandhana to become the third player to win the most Player of the Match awards for the Indian women’s team in T20. At just 21 years of age, Verma has achieved this feat by winning her eighth Player of the Match. Now she is at third place only after Mithali Raj (12) and Harmanpreet Kaur (11).

In a brilliant performance, Shafali Verma scored unbeaten 69 runs on 34 balls against Sri Lanka. His brilliant innings included 11 fours and one six, which shows his explosive batting style. India won by seven wickets and now lead the five-match series 2-0. Mithali Raj holds the record for the most player of the match awards for India in Women’s T20 International (WT20I), she has won 12 player of the match awards in 89 matches played between 2006 and 2019. She is followed by Harmanpreet Kaur, who has won 11 Player of the Match awards in 184 matches. Shafali Verma is currently at third place with eight Player of the Match awards in 92 matches.
