Jitanram Manjhi trapped by calling every MP-MLA a thief, AAP leader Somnath Bharti sent legal notice

Manjhi statement controversy , It may be easy to speak from the stage, to put every MP and every MLA in one line and call them “commissioners”, but when the same thing reaches the dock of law, then its truth starts getting revealed automatically. One such statement by Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has now put him himself in the circle of questions. Taking a strict stand on this statement, senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Somnath Bharti has sent a legal notice to Manjhi.

Allegations without evidence, attack on democracy – Bharti

Bharti said that Manjhi had said from the public platform that every MP and every MLA eats commission. This may sound worthy of applause to some people, but in reality it is a direct attack on the entire democracy. Calling the elected public representatives in the country as thieves without any proof is neither honesty nor a fight against corruption. This is not just a light statement, but an attack on the credibility of the representatives elected by crores of people.

“Calling everyone a thief is like normalizing corruption”

Somnath Bharti has clearly said that such statements do not expose corruption but make it normal. When everyone is called a thief, then the difference between a real thief and an honest one disappears. This thinking is most dangerous for democracy. Such language cannot be expected from a person holding a constitutional post and the law also does not allow it.

Such allegations come under the category of defamation – Somnath Bharti

It has been made clear in the legal notice that this allegation leveled against the entire class of MPs and MLAs falls in the category of defamation. It is already settled in law that it is wrong to label any identifiable group as criminal without facts and without investigation. Freedom of expression does not mean that anyone can say anything and escape responsibility. With freedom of speech comes accountability.

If there is no apology within 7 days, legal action will be taken

Somnath Bharti has asked Manjhi to apologize publicly, through the same medium, without any conditions within seven days, withdraw his statement and give a written assurance not to use such language in future. If this is not done, criminal and civil action will be taken, including seeking substantial damages. This is not a threat, but a direct and clear path of law.

AAP raised a big question on the Center

Aam Aadmi Party has also raised a big question on this entire matter. Do the ministers of the BJP government now want to put the entire Parliament and Assemblies in the dock? Are such statements not a way to divert public attention from inflation, unemployment and real issues? The party says that accountability is necessary, but false and defamatory allegations have no place in a democracy.

The difference is clearly visible in this entire incident. On one hand there is an irresponsible statement made from the stage, and on the other hand there is a reply given within the ambit of the law. Somnath Bharti showed that in politics, truth and honor are protected not by making noise, but in a responsible and constitutional manner. The message is also clear that in a democracy it is important to think before speaking, because every word has a value.
