Farmers and youth will be empowered through horticulture training
Grafting is an effective method to increase the productivity of vegetables.
Inter-specific grafting, a novel technique of producing brinjal and tomato in the same plant through grafting, has emerged as a promising approach for increasing the tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses as well as increasing the productivity of vegetables.
Training to farmers on grafted vegetable production
As per the wish of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and under the direction of Collector Surajpur, a special training campaign has been launched to promote the production of grafted tomato, brinjal and other horticulture crops in Surajpur district. Under this initiative, farmers are being trained in grafted vegetable production by connecting them with modern technologies, which will give new strength to the farmers to meet the increasing demand for vegetables.
Skill development based gardener training for preparing grafted plants.
Till now, farmers in the district had to depend on outside agencies for grafted plants, which posed problems of time, cost and availability. In view of this situation, the district administration has implemented skill development based gardener training scheme to prepare grafted saplings in the district itself, which will reduce the external dependence of the farmers.
Funds available for gardener training to horticulture department from DMF fund
For this purpose Collector S. Jayavardhan has provided funds for gardener training to the Horticulture Department from DMF funds. Under this, free gardener training is being provided to 60 beneficiaries (farmers and local boys and girls), 30 each in the two major government garden plantations of the district, Government Garden Datima, Development Block Surajpur and Government Garden Khorma, Development Block Pratappur.
Objective: To give practical knowledge of modern technologies
During the training, the beneficiaries are being given practical knowledge of modern techniques of plant preparation through cutting, budding and grafting. Along with this, after completion of the training, horticulture tool-kit will also be provided, so that the trained beneficiaries can start their work immediately.
An important step towards employment generation, production growth and self-reliance
This training program is an important step towards employment generation, production growth and self-reliance in the district. This will not only increase the production capacity of farmers, but will also create new opportunities for self-employment and entrepreneurship for local youth. Also, positive results like easy availability of grafted plants, reduction in cost, improvement in quality and increase in horticulture production will emerge.
