Delhi Metro gets a gift of Rs 12,000 crore! 13 new stations, traffic jams will end forever!
New Delhi: Metro expansion in Delhi will now happen more rapidly. The Union Cabinet has approved Phase 5A of Delhi Metro on Wednesday 24 December 2025. About Rs 12,015 crore will be spent on this project. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that this will improve the connectivity of the capital and reduce traffic problems.
In this phase, 13 new stations will be built and the network will be more than 400 kilometers. At present the network of Delhi Metro is about 395 kilometers long.
How long will the new line be?
A total of 16 kilometers of new metro line will be built in this project. There will be 10 stations underground and 3 elevated. Most of the construction will be done with tunnel boring machines, due to which the traffic on the road will be less affected. The target is to complete the entire work in three years. This phase is the successor to Phase 4 of Delhi Metro, which is currently underway and is expected to be completed by 2026.
Which lines will increase?
Phase 5A will expand three main routes:
- Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj (elevated, better connection to South Delhi and Noida)
- Ramakrishna Ashram to Indraprastha (Underground will connect Central Delhi and Central Vista area)
- From Aerocity to Terminal 1 (Underground, IGI will increase airport facilities)
These routes will connect the busy areas of Delhi. This will benefit lakhs of passengers every day and will reduce dependence on buses and other vehicles. Airport connection will also provide convenience to tourists and business travelers.
Growing network and benefits of Delhi Metro
At present the network of Delhi Metro is about 395 kilometers. After completion of Phase 5A, it will cross 400 kilometers. Delhi-NCR will become one of the largest metro networks in the world. This project is also good for the environment, because the metro reduces both pollution and jam. This saves crores of liters of petrol and diesel every day and reduces carbon emissions.
Some parts of Phase 4 have already started, like Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension. When the entire phase 4 is completed by 2026, Delhi Metro can become the longest single-city network in the world. Phase 5A will provide direct access to new areas of the city like Kalindi Kunj and Airport Terminal 1.
The Union Minister said that this decision is important for the convenience of the people of Delhi. Construction will start soon and will be open to passengers in three years. This step was very necessary in view of the increasing population and traffic of Delhi. This will not only save time but will also boost the city’s economy.
