A 41-year-old man has been arrested following the fatal stabbing of a Russian flight attendant in a luxury hotel room in Dubai.
The suspect was detained in Saint Petersburg several days after authorities believe the 25-year-old woman was killed between Dec. 17 and 18, The Independent reported.
The victim was stabbed at least 15 times, sustaining wounds to her torso, neck and limbs, and died at the scene from her injuries, RBC Petersburg reported.
Investigators believe the suspect was previously in a relationship with the flight attendant and had been stalking her for several days in Dubai before her body was discovered, according to state news agency RIA Novosti.
He was arrested on Dec. 20 after returning to Russia and was charged with murder the same day.
Dubai police reportedly identified the suspect using hotel CCTV footage before alerting Russian law enforcement authorities.
The flight attendant worked for Russian airline Pobeda, which is owned by state carrier Aeroflot.
Russia’s Investigative Committee said the case is being handled in cooperation with law enforcement agencies in the United Arab Emirates.
The suspect has been remanded in custody for two months, until Feb. 18.
