Vijay Hazare Trophy matches will not be held in Chinnaswamy, allegations of ignoring security rules

BengaluruKarnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Wednesday said the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) had failed to comply with security requirements due to which it was not allowed to hold matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in the city, He advised KSCA to follow the recommendations of the commission headed by Justice John Michael Cunha and said that only then can their request be considered,

The state Home Minister said that the government will not take any decision in this matter in a hurry. Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh had said on Tuesday that permission has not been given to organize the Vijay Hazare Trophy match on December 24 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. KSCA had sought permission to organize the match without spectators for the time being.

Eleven people were killed in a stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4 while Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were celebrating their Indian Premier League (IPL) title win. After this, there was a ban on organizing matches in this stadium. “The KSCA administration led by Venkatesh Prasad (former cricketer) had met the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister and sought permission to organize cricket matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium,” Parameshwara told reporters here.

After discussion, the Cabinet authorized me as the Home Minister to take a decision in this matter.” He said that after the stampede, the government had constituted the Justice Cunha Commission to investigate the matter and submit a report. The Commission had made certain recommendations and KSCA was asked to comply with them.

“But, it appears that till now they (KSCA) have not followed any of the recommendations,” Parameshwara said, adding that Parameshwara had constituted a committee to consider allowing cricket matches to be held at the stadium. The committee had visited the stadium on Monday.

The Home Minister said that the committee, during its visit to the stadium, found that KSCA had not followed any of the recommendations, based on which it was decided that permission cannot be given to hold the match at the stadium. This information has been given to KSCA.
